The Coffee Cup

Today I wrote a short story for children called The Coffee Cup. It is one of two short stories I'm writing as part of a study on plotting short stories for children. The other one will be called Puppy Love.

Watching Hazel

I'm almost 5000 words into Watching Hazel, now in chapter three, and it occurred to me that I'm having very warm feelings towards this novel. Though it is somewhat melancholy in nature, because I'm basing the characters on my family members (my grandmother's family) I'm feeling a lot of comfort and happiness even though the events in the novel are mostly fictional.

Of course I have no idea what they did in their day-to-day lives, so I'm making it all up, but the personalities of the people I'm writing about come through. Really, of all the people I'm writing about, I knew only my grandmother and great-grandmother, and I met a few of the sisters... but not enough to know anything about their personalities.

Novel Number Nine

I hope nine is the magic number. I started writing novel number nine yesterday. It is a young adult novel about a teen mother in Oklahoma in the early 1900's. The first day I wrote about 2600 words and today... nothing so far. I'll get to it.

I'm writing this month with a group of talented women who write for children and young adults... the Silverweb critique group that I'm blessed to be a member of. There are eight of us. We're aiming for 20,000, 30,000, or 50,000 words for the month. I'm not sure what my goal is........ probably as much as I can manage.

I also enrolled in the mystery writing class at BNU.
