Linda's Homeschool WebLog
Keith (dh) came in here and asked if we were doing homeschooling. I said, "Yeah... I just read this to the kids..."
Top ten reasons to send your kids to government school - a bit of homeschool humor.
My daughter, age 14, is wanting to go back to the local government school now as it has a monopoly on almost all teen events in this town and they're excluding her. Of course I don't want her to go.
The last straw for her was being excluded from next summer's
Upward Bound program because she's not enrolled in a government high school. Needless to say, we're feeling a bit discriminated against. We're taxpayers too. My family has worked and paid taxes in this country for many years. But my daughter is excluded from Upward Bound, a government funded program?
Dear me, here I go again, fighting for our rights. I have such a hard time staying silent in the face of injustice. I really don't like the idea of my child going to a live-in program for six weeks, but its important to her because her best friend did it last summer and is planning to do it again this summer, and because the kids are being put to work and paid about six hundred dollars each for the summer's work. She sees this as a good opportunity.
Here's a positive, uplifting article...
The Daily Mississippian - Home schooling on the rise:
'I think the biggest thing is the home school has grown over the years, and most people now have some familiarity with people who home school,' Derrick said. 'It is something that the family down the street does, and they have met these people and it is among their options. Where 10, 20 years ago it wasn't an option.'
Yes, word gets around and when it does a lot of parents decide to take charge of the education of their children. The more the better. I find myself having to prepare my children to deal with the kinds of people trained in our
schools government indoctrination centers (might as well call them what they are). I can't even say they're being educated. They're being
trained to prepare them for military and workforce jobs.

Its enough to make me grateful I live in California!
Gail Lightfoot for US Senator from California!
I recently emailed all the Libertarian candidates on my primary election ballot to ask how they stood on the issue of child protective services. Gail was the only one to send a personal reply so far and she tells me she's very aware of the problem and feels the same way I do - that CPS manages to harm more than help. So though I haven't heard from her competitor,
Judge James Gray, I'm inclined to give Gail my vote.
Gail Lightfoot also supports education reform and homeschooling and that's the main issue on
her website. She's endorsed by
John Taylor Gatto and was one of the first signers of the
Proclamation for the Separation of School and State. (I've signed too.) My kind of candidate.
Judge Gray's main platform is justice reform for drug abusers. He's written a book on that topic and is likely to get lots of votes. But since I'm a mom and don't use drugs, I identify more with
Gail's issues.
