Linda's Homeschool WebLog
The hearing outcome... is that there won't be a hearing for us after all. After looking at my request letter and the one sent to them by the lawyer that works with the
California Homeschool Network, my county decided to back off and become homeschool-friendly again. It may help that I sent copies of our letters to my local county supervisor to let her know what the human services department was up to. Ever since I've moved to this county I've had one human services problem after another. I believe its because they don't like my
Fight CPS And Win website and because I've
written about my views in letters printed in the local newspapers.
I thank God for leading me in the right direction on this. While I was doing my hearing preparation documentation I was inspired several times with the thought to forward the information to my county supervisor. She acted on this right away and saved me the trouble of having to go to the hearing. I am relieved - the last thing I really want to do is have to get involved in a lawsuit against the county. I happen to love this county - I love living here in the mountains, in this forest, with these people. And I want to spend my time taking care of my kids and doing my
writing, not in plotting courtroom strategies.
One good thing that came of this is my new
homeschool website (under development) which will have information I've picked up during my study of homeschooling legalities here due to this hearing.
Greg Palast is concerned that the No Child Left Behind Act is intended to sift the less intelligent kids out of the mix, intentionally leaving them behind rather than helping them. So he wrote this article,
The New Educational Eugenics in George Bush's State of the Union, and he sounds pretty angry. Palast has an large journalist's website ... I plan to go back and poke around a bit after I post this where you can find it.
I couldn't agree more that
Californians should vote on parental notification - that is, they should be told if their daughters choose to abort their babies.
After homeschooling her for five years, my daughter wanted to attend public school last year. I was shocked to read the school literature at the beginning of the year and find out that part of public schooling in this state is to provide children with the chance to get birth control and abortions behind their parents' backs!
Abortion, aside from the death of the infant, is a major health risk to anyone having one, and this is definitely something parents need to be aware of.
