We had our power knocked out for three full days due to snow. On New Year's Day it came back on but went out three more times during the day. So far today it seems steady, but the snow is coming down heavy again. We've had 19 inches since this began - 7 inches since just last night, and our town's page at Weather.Com claims we'll have more for the next three or four days... then rain daily for a long time. Many locals remember the flood of 1997 that followed similar weather conditions. When the rains melt the snow pack, the flooding begins. This is the most snow we've had here since we moved to this county four years ago.

My son has kept busy constructing igloos. We've had a class for him called 'Alternative Construction' for two years now, because this is what he loves doing. He watches building shows on TV constantly - you know, the ones on channels like HGTV. He's built a bike shed out of scrap lumber and a few other smaller projects. He loves igloo construction and is outside working on one now.

This picture was taken yesterday. Now with another 7 inches of snow, the smaller one is nearly covered. I will try to get out there later to take more pictures. He's adding on to the larger structure now.

Child abuse in government schools - an article at World Net Daily.

A discussion on the support mailing list for a homeschool organization I belong to came to the conclusion that child abuse is in the eye of the accuser. At least one parent wrote to the University of Minnesota to complain about their socialist curriculum.

I think a lot of do-gooders people don't recognize socialism for what it is when they're preaching it.
