Aaron was talking to a friend on the phone, "I just finished washing my parents' car," he said. His friend asked if he was getting money for doing it. Aaron said, "No, I just like doing it - I like doing car and bike work....basically I'm the little work ant of the family."
Good description - he's always doing something.. he doesn't care for reading or writing but compensates in so many ways. I'm glad he's learning a good delight-driven work ethic rather than having paperwork forced on him in the public schools.
My son is such a dreamer! I enjoy listening to his day-dreams and am glad he shares them with me. This is the latest:
Aaron: "My dream is to live in the past. My dream is to live in a Japanese rainforest because there’s bamboo, pandas. I’d like to build my home of bamboo in a rainforest so I can serve animals, live old-style."
Me: "Would it bother you to know that the pandas live in China and not in Japan?"
Aaron: "Anywhere is okay, I don’t care where they live. I just want to live in a bamboo rain forest with those trees. I don’t care where the pandas live!" (To his sister) "Wouldn't you rather live in the old style?"
My son just said, "I love you so much, I would pay the money to have you cloned." I told him that's the nicest thing anyone ever said to me. Then he said, "The sad part - it wouldn't really be you." He explained the clone would need to have all the same experiences as me to really be me, and that would take a clone of every other person I'd ever had contact with. We agreed this would be impossible. He thinks the government should start working on making better bodies for us. LOL
I like this idea for a
homeschool tea - to introduce people to the idea of independent homeschooling and to share used curriculum. I think this is something I can do this summer. Maybe I'll find people nearby who are also independent homeschooling or who'd like to give it a try. (Thanks to
Mary Leggewie for sharing on the CHN mailing list.)
