I see I haven't written in here for a few days. Well, Friday was not a good homeschool day for Cimeron. We called her to come inside and right away she started arguing and complaining. She ended up having to go to her room and she missed everything. Aaron, on the other hand, made a good effort to do the math problems I put into his math notebook. He did multiplication. I tried to make it easy, so I could see where he's at with that. Next I gave him a multiplication chart to fill in. After that I read to him from the historical society book about the history of the town we live in. Keith was in an uptight mood after Cimeron's outburst and he didn't feel like doing anything educational. We had the children watching news programs for social studies.

Outside they are preparing a winter rabbit habitat for Cimeron's mini-lop bunnies, Arlo Andreas and Bartholomew Bun-Bun - both of the Hopalong family. I should take some pictures of the rabbits. They were bought for Cimeron's 4H project this last year. We haven't been to 4H meetings this year yet but probably will get back at it soon.

Today Cimeron cleaned her room and *finally* is wearing her glasses to watch TV. Aaron is visiting his friend, Shane. Earlier Cimeron spent some time down at the store trying to find a home for Bella, but there were no takers.

Bella is a very sweet and attractive Border-Collie mix.
She was deserted by her owners (my neighbors)
and needs a loving home.

Here's some good news...

Children schooled at home have better social skills
...an article by Julie Smyth of the National Post, a Canadian source.

Today for homeschool Keith read to Cimeron and Aaron from a book about local history: Dear Madam. That was social studies. For science they studied the weatherization of rocks. Aaron read to Keith for a while, and Cimeron practiced typing. They rode their bikes into town to buy bike tire patches. They also spent time sledding down the hill behind our home. There's no snow, but loose dirt and a hillside and plastic sled make this a fun activity for them.

Our landlord gave Aaron two bikes for which he was very grateful. One of them had a bad back tire and Aaron set to work on the project of fixing it right away.

Aaron also created a simple compost bin for me today:

The composting area.
Aaron made the square bin on the right, which I'll be using soon.

This looks like a good website for composition: Children Who Write

Homeschooling today went well. Cimeron is still sicker than anyone in the house, but she did some math and social studies. I was disappointed that she couldn't figure out the math crossword puzzle I made for her. I guess those things are not all that easy. I'm going to try to solve it. She did better on some of the other math puzzles I put into her book. Well, this is progress... at least it isn't another long page of long multiplication problems. Aaron is still doing well with his division unit.

Today we did chores. Aaron is feeling 100% better and helped our landlord clean up the property next door. Cimeron is still sick and coughing. Keith is down for the count... apparently he got what the kids had and is reduced to sleeping out the day.

Homeschool will resume tomorrow - no matter what. They missed two days of lessons because of this cold.
