  I’m keeping a daily journal, and a garden journal... and thought I’d start a homeschooling journal today. We’re at it again. Of course, last summer we never really stopped homeschooling. We try to keep at it five days a week... for just a few hours each afternoon. So much of life can be considered educational. I feel that two hours daily of academic work like grammar and math is enough. Usually Keith starts the academic time by reading about a science subject... or social studies. I think they are doing science this week. Then the kids have three periods (1/2 hour time slots) of grammar, reading, spelling, composition, typing or math. Today I worked with my daughter on long division. She’s not very good at it yet but for me it is great fun. I love math. I hope I can convince her to love it too. Math is like figuring out number puzzles. Aaron is starting a 4th grade math workbook now. He complained about that, saying he is in third grade. Oh yeah?... for how many years? I told him no... that he's really in fifth grade now and would he like for me to get him a fifth grade math book. He was quiet after that, and did his work. He has always been slow at math and reading. He can do it now, but the resistance has been considerable. The kids went into town to play with their friends when they were done studying today.
