I am the pilot. My writing is the airplane. I am responsible for take offs and landings, and for the direction my writing will take.
The beginning of the writing day is the most important part. Without a good beginning, there can be no flight. So I pamper myself a bit, and coddle myself into believing that all life is blessed by getting ready for the main event – the writing.
I remind myself how much I love writing, and what a charge I get out of writing something good. And I remember that good writing is not foreign to me. It is something I can reach, but only if I put myself into that chair and take off.
Then there’s the flight. I’ve got my fingers moving – usually flying over the keyboard but sometimes with a pen in my hand. I enjoy the experience – the connections of words enhancing words, and paragraphs building on one another, creating something that might be great. I let myself go – enjoying every moment of the rough draft, letting my mind and imagination fly high, soar low, do cartwheels in the air, and speed away.
This is what I live for. This is beauty. This is the best part of life.
I anticipate a time when I’ll slow down and be ready to land. But not too quickly now. I have time still to write, and learn from the process. I know the more I write, the better I’ll be at writing. And I enjoy the process just as later I’ll enjoy re-reading what I wrote.
It is my determination that gets me up into the air. My will-power fuels this plane. I am the one responsible for seeing that the airplane is capable of flying. I prepare everything.
I am duty-bound to see that my level of commitment propels me toward success, on a daily basis. If I can set a schedule and live by it, I will have created an intensely rewarding, viable business.
With determination and action backing it up, I have the assets needed to keep my airplane in flight, my writing in gear, and my heart in the clouds.
Each day that passes is an opportunity for creativity that will never come again, so the value is clear. I’ll fuel up, put myself in the pilot’s seat, and soar through the sky at will.
